With the good track record and vast experience, Wincor Nixdorf was able to secure a new contract in 2007, to deliver an integrated solution for Terminal 3. The contract includes the deployment of additional 400 POS terminals and software, and handling of various work and management processes as part of the managed services offering through trained personnel. In addition to its competitive bid, Wincor Nixdorf was awarded the contract because of its “notable success in providing good service so far to CAAS and its tenants,” says Ms. Ivy Wong, CAAS Deputy Director, Commercial Division.

Currently, the Wincor Nixdorf team is busy discussing with the tenants and restaurants in Terminal 3 to help them implement the POS systems (Glossary to meet their business operational requirements. “The POS systems are not only important for the airport but must also satisfy users’ needs,” says Kiew Hui Soon, Service Director for Wincor Nixdorf Singapore. The “art” in meeting all the various needs, such as the high security requirements of the airport and the easy-to-use functionality of terminals for the users, is to find the right compromise.

On Terminal 3 again, Wincor Nixdorf has been award another contract in August 2007, and the first phase is scheduled to complete by mid November 2007. This project encompasses supplying of Network Infrastructure and 240 units of Internet-enabled Terminals, integrated solutions, processes and skilled manpower to ensure high availability of the Internet-enabled Terminals. The Internet-enabled Terminals are deployed at transit areas and boarding gates to offer passengers free internet access while they wait to board their planes.

The contract was awarded to Wincor Nixdorf for its strong track record in providing IT related services, and is able to offer comprehensive value-for-money IT solutions that meet Changi Airport’s needs. “It was not an easy win for us,” says Kiew Hui Soon, Service Director at Wincor Nixdorf Singapore. According to Mr. Foo Sek Min, CAAS Director, Airport Management, “There are other competitors, including existing service providers at Terminal 1 and 2 for this project.” Wincor Nixdorf is expected to deliver and commission equipment for both projects for operation ready on January 9, 2008.
