Refuel, withdraw cash and save
Cash Cycle Management™ Solutions from Wincor Nixdorf have now been proven in a project that was well-regarded in expert circles. Power in the gas tank, cash in your wallet: customers will be able to use a fuel stop to top up their cash reserves when refueling at one of 1300 Shell stations in Germany. And that’s not all: Postbank customers can save while filling up. Anyone paying with a Postbank debit card receives a direct discount of one cent per liter on their fuel at all participating Shell service stations. The Postbank is advertising the new offer with a broad-based campaign – including a commercial on German TV.
The Shell Deutschland Oil GmbH project by the Postbank and Wincor Nixdorf is pioneering one. These three partners have implemented their joint concept of making payment at service stations safer through automation, and also enabling cash withdrawals by EC card. And all of this in a combined system: the cash transfers into a cash safe upon payment from which cash flows to customers with a debit or savings card after entering their personal pin number. The solution is based on the Integrated Cash Management (ICM) System – a package developed by Wincor Nixdorf with different technology modules that allows the automated deposit and withdrawal of bank notes and coins. Fuel, shop items or car wash services at the service station are paid using the bank notes module iCash 50 attached to the staff counter side of the cash desk. The cashier takes the notes in the same way as before but does not put them in the cash drawer: the cashier inserts them into the module. This means that the notes are inside a closed system and can be used as change or withdrawals.
This machine is supplemented with the iCash 15 coin module – a closed coin recycling system. It is placed on the front side of the POS counter facing the customer. Customers and cashiers can insert and withdraw coins in any amount. Due to the fact that the full cash process is handled by both these modules, there is no more direct access to cash amounts in the service station. The cash receipts are automatically booked using the POS system’s interfaces. Armored transport companies commissioned by the Postbank are exclusively responsible for opening the machines and taking the cash directly to the bank. Of course, payment at all Shell service stations is still possible with an EC card, credit card and the Shell or DKV customer cards.
