RFID ConceptStore
The new platform for RFID applications at stores
Complete solutions with RFID and EPC in store and logistics processes
Current RFID pilot installations in the retail sector are focusing on the identification and handling of larger logistical units such as pallets, hanging goods and boxes at central warehouses. Retail companies are therefore expecting RFID to optimize processes and reduce costs in respect of central receipt of goods, replenishment control, putaway operations at the warehouse, and the flow of goods to stores initially, and are pushing these aspects at the moment.
But what does RFID technology offer to stores themselves? Which applications are realistic on the store level and can be implemented usefully? And what time horizon are we talking about? RFID ConceptStore deals with these questions, among other things in the shape of informal discussions between Wincor Nixdorf and pilot users. It provides a platform for meaningful implementation and enhancement of RFID technology at stores.
In addition, Wincor Nixdorf has joined the worldwide RFID/EPC global network as a full member, and is helping to standardize Radio Frequency Identification Technology (RFID) and the Electronic Product Code (EPC). Beyond the banking and retail industries, Wincor Nixdorf is also active for customers in the postal service, lottery and service station sectors, and expertise in these lines of business also flows into the standardization committee's work.
Solution offering. RFID ConceptStore is part of Wincor Nixdorf's Retail Horizons scheme. In the Retail Horizons scheme we develop innovative solutions for the retail industry and mature them for use in practice. We engineer retail store processes more efficiently and, at the same time, ensure that consumers get more service and have a positive shopping experience. This is not just about new technologies but also about integrating them in new store concepts and business models.
Wincor Nixdorf has a multi-stage total solution package to get users off to the right start with RFID. It consists of four areas: process analysis and consulting, technology consulting and selection, technology deployment and system integration, and services.
Example in food retailing. Control of the chill chain for frozen foods is in the interest of consumers, producers and retailers alike. A systematic temperature level concept is geared to the number of distribution levels and interfaces as well as the sequence and quality standards of temperature control. As part of its RFID solution portfolio, Wincor Nixdorf is fully supporting a project to track the unbroken chill chain for frozen foods. This includes consulting, technology selection, hardware and software solutions, system integration and services (see the "Proof of Unbroken Chill Chain" brochure under Downloads).
- Reference project. Adler Modemärkte – a chain of fashion stores – and Wincor Nixdorf have set up a joint project to analyze the concrete potential for rationalization that RFID has to offer, and when it is worth investing in it. (See the "With Eagle Eyes" project study under Downloads.)
