A modular software suite for mobile retail banking processes

Across the globe, mobile telephones are gaining ground as a medium for transacting banking business. Wincor Nixdorf supports this trend, and has expanded the software offered in its ProClassic/Enterprise Retail Banking Solution Suite (PC/E) to include even more functions for mobile banking. This means that direct marketing options originally developed for the self-service delivery channel can be adapted for use via the mobile channel. Another software package to complement the PC/E modular software suite is PC/E Payment Services, a solution for handling cashless payment transactions.

Wincor Nixdorf presents PC/E Direct Marketing – the software component that enables you to manage advertising campaigns not only on self-service systems, but across all service and delivery channels and other media. The software adapts content specifically for display on cell phones, large-format screens such as interactive display windows or touch-based applications for consultant workstations. "The goal is to map sales processes seamlessly – from product advertising to concluding the sale – in order to enable end-to-end marketing campaigns across all delivery channels," says Thomas Certa, who heads up Solution Marketing at Wincor Nixdorf.

PC/E Payment Services takes care of all cashless payment transactions, whether they are made at a transaction terminal or bank counter, at a supermarket checkout, via the Internet or telephone. At the moment, transactions of this type are generally handled in technical silos by proprietary applications for each particular channel. PC/E Payment Services unites these disparate processes in a centralized software architecture, making it that much simpler to handle payment transactions.

Initiating cash transfers with mobile phones is one of the top topics at Wincor World 2010. Visitors to the trade show will see how the PC/E Mobile Transaction Services software allows customers to use mobile phones to activate cash payouts at ATMs, either for themselves for third parties. The transaction can be initiated via a number of different delivery channels: self-service terminal, mobile telephone, Internet or front office. In order to ensure safe payment to the recipient, the server-based solution operates with a two-code system. These codes are transferred to the recipient via two different channels: one is automatically transmitted to the recipient's mobile phone, the other direct from the person transferring the amount. The recipients need neither a bank card nor a bank account: all they require is the two transaction codes to withdraw the specified amount from a self-service system or take delivery of it at the bank counter. This solution lends itself to a wide variety of application areas. Just 15% of the people in the world have a bank account of their own, but over half already have a mobile telephone. And if mobiles were used at ATMs for authentication purposes, the problems caused by lost or defective bank cards would be a thing of the past.

ProClassic/Enterprise Retail Banking Solution Suite is Wincor Nixdorf's modular software suite and focuses on the sales and service processes operating in the bank front office. Combining software products from the four main areas of Channel Delivery, Security, Management & Optimization, and Banking Business Enabling makes it possible for retail banks to transform their current individual IT architectures and make them future-proof and expandable. The Suite's net-centric concept ensures that new services and functions are quickly implemented and that the entire hardware and software landscape is managed centrally and made available across all delivery channels. The service-oriented multichannel concept on which the entire software package is based means that, once implemented, individual functions and services can be reused across all delivery channels.
PC/E comprises four categories: Channel Delivery ensures cross-channel mapping of service and sales processes as well as cross-channel data availability. The software products in the Security category ensure that IT systems are protected against internal and external attacks. Solutions from the Management and Optimization category make it possible, for example, to carry out remote monitoring of systems and manage cash efficiently. Banking Business Enabling comprises software products that can optimize sales activities and enhance customer service in the area of transaction business.
