O.P.I. – Open Payment Initiative
The POS integration of cashless payment solutions is subject to a wide variety of influences. The result in today's retail is that payment functionality must be separately analyzed and realized for every POS project. For multi-national projects in particular, this means a separate implementation in each country.
This is an unsatisfying situation from the point of view of total cost of ownership, and that's why Wincor Nixdorf created the Open Payment Initiative (O.P.I.). The goal of this initiative is the standardization of the interface between the retailer's POS application and the payment solution used. As an international, multi-sector application, this interface is especially interesting for retailers with stores in different countries.
The O.P.I. specifications have meanwhile been distributed to many interested companies, and some exemplary solutions from leading payment solution providers have already been implemented.
