retail technology awards 2011
Wincor Nixdorf successful as IT partner for retail
Two of the coveted retail technology awards europe this year went to projects for which Wincor Nixdorf is the IT partner of the retail company that received the award, which is presented by the EHI Retail Institute for outstanding, innovative IT solutions in retail environments.
A prominent jury of representatives from industry, universities and research institutes chose the winners in three categories from among numerous entries. In the “Best in-store solution” category, one prize went to POCO Domäne Einrichtungsmärkte GmbH. The precondition for winning this prize is that the use of technology brings about demonstrable added business value at the point of sale (POS). Working with its technology partner Wincor Nixdorf, POCO automated its cash handling with the new CINEO Cash Cycle Management solutions. The installation has enabled the optimization of payment processes at the checkout as well as the cash office activities of counting, bundling and preparing cash for pickup by the cash-in-transit company. Benefits of the closed cash cycle include increased security, cuts in process costs and reductions in the employees’ workload.
As a requirement for winning in the "Best enterprise solution” category, contestants had to demonstrate efficiency increases either within the company or across companies through the development or implementation of innovative systems and technologies. Here, the Edeka Group prevailed: Through the use of innovative technology in its Future Store, Edeka is already offering a look at the retail environment of the future. The Lunar program that Edeka has initiated in its Future Store is another part of this “hands-on approach”. As Edeka’s IT subsidiary, Lunar GmbH has taken on the task of optimally meshing the company’s business processes on the retail, wholesale and headquarters levels. As part of this program and in close cooperation with the regional Edeka companies and Edeka's technology partner SAP, Lunar is developing one of the most cutting-edge, comprehensive software solutions for food retailing in Germany. Wincor Nixdorf’s SAP consultants are involved in this project too. Wincor Nixdorf’s expertise in the retail segment – particularly its solutions for automated checkouts, automated cash handling, reverse vending and electronic shelf labeling – also played a decisive role in equipping the Future Store.
The retail technology awards europe were presented on February 27, 2011 at a gala evening as part of the EuroShop / EuroCIS trade fair.
