Implementation of the EU WEEE directive, national law

WEEE

The European Union's directive 2002/96/EC on waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) dated January 27, 2003, and its implementation in the Member States' national law oblige all producers putting electrical and electronic equipment on the market in the EU to obey the following rules among others:

  • Produce the equipment with a low level of pollution
  • Dispose of the equipment appropriately
  • Mark all equipment so that it can be linked to the producer

The marking obligation comes into force for all equipment that is put on the market in the European Union after August 13, 2005. This marking obligation is not linked to actual production but solely to putting the equipment on the market so, as the importer or party putting on the market the electrical and electronic equipment that you have supplied, Wincor Nixdorf is in many cases the producer in the sense of this directive and is therefore obligated to mark these products. The sale of unmarked electrical and electronic equipment is prohibited by law after August 13, 2005!

Since August 01, 2005, Wincor Nixdorf does not accept any electrical or electronic equipment that is not marked as conforming with the directive.
